Development: The Pathway-MLS dreaming

NC Fusion is extremely happy to announce the signing of current U13 DA player’s Simon Tonidandal (2007) and Nimfasha Berchimas (2008) to Charlotte MLS U14 Youth Academy. The boys will be part of the U14 team for the 2020-2021 season. Simon started in our recreation program before moving up the levels from youth Academy, Classic and finally to the Development Academy. “It’s great to see a player come through from our grassroots programs into our academy program and then on to a professional MLS academy” said Head of level 1, Adam Reekie. Nimfasha relocated to the Triad with his family from Atlanta. He was identified as a top talent by the Fusion DA staff and joined from local club PTFC for the start of the 2019-2020 season. Reekie said ” Nimfasha had a very different pathway to Simon in terms of time at the club, however, we are extremely happy we could provided him the same quality platform to professional soccer with Charlotte MLS Youth Academy. The Fusion staff all look forward to seeing what happens next for the boys.”

“We’re very excited to sign Simon and Nimfasha to Charlotte MLS Academy. Both players demonstrate the different ways that a player can move through the pathway, whether that’s starting in recreational soccer, or via relationships with local clubs. NC Fusion have done a tremendous job in creating that pathway and developing both Simon and Nimfasha.

We look forward to continued collaboration with NC Fusion and all of its staff, and hope that this is the first of many players that will make the transition to Charlotte MLS Academy in the coming years.” – Dan Lock, MLS Charlotte Youth Academy Director
