How are players evaluated?

Player evaluations for boys and girls in the 8U-12U age groups are conducted to identify players best suited for the Juniors (8U-10U) and Academy (9U-12U) programs.

Evaluations are held over two nights with each session being roughly 60-75 minutes in length, conducted by the NC Fusion Juniors and Acdaemy Directors and Coaching staff.

The evaluation process is conducted in a relaxed environment, players are encouraged to play the game they love and have fun. This is done to ensure players are not intimidated or "fear" not making a team.

The coaching staff evaluates each player using several age approprate talent indicators developed by our Technical Director.

We will also base the evaluation for the youngest players (8U-10U) on the following:

  • Do they want to be here?
  • Can they follow direction?
  • Are they mature enough for this environment?
  • Can they compete physically with the players around them?
  • Do they have a good level of coordination?

Juniors Player Selection: The number of players selected will be determined by the quality of the player pool. Juniors teams will be formed and will train in the Burlington, Danville, VA, Greensboro, High Point/Jamestown, Oak Ridge and Winston Salem areas.  The top group of  boys and girls from across all areas will be invited to participate in the 9u and 10u Academy.

Academy Player Selection: Two 9U boys Red teams and two 9U girls Red teams will be formed. One boys team and one girls team will train in the Greensboro area, one boys team and one girls team will train in the Winston Salem area.  Players will be selected after participating in the Juniors' player evaluations.

One 10U boys Pre-ECNL pool team and one 10U girls Pre-ECNL pool team will be formed and will train in the Kernersville area.  Players must attend the 10U Academy tryout to be considered for a Pre-ECNL team placement.  Players not selected will be recommended to attend the Juniors player evaluations.

One 11U and one 12U boys Pre-ECNL pool team and one 11U and one 12U girls Pre-ECNL pool team will be formed and will train in the Kernersville area.  Players must attend the 11U or 12U Pre-ECNL tryout to be considered for a Pre-ECNL team placement. Players not selected will be recommended to attend the 11U or 12U Classic tryouts.

Supplemental Training

The NC Fusion Tekkers program is an excellent program designed for players in the 9U-14U age groups looking to develop and enhance their technical skills and abilities. In small groups of eight players, all sessions will be intense and fun with a focus on technical dribbling, passing, receiving and ball striking. Players will be challenged and pushed with 1 vs 1, 2 vs 2, and 3 vs 3 games, ball mastery, and comfort on the ball.

If you want to add a third night of training to your weekly schedule, this is great supplemental option!

Training, Game and Tournament Schedules

Training schedules will be finalized and communicated once we determine how many teams will be formed after tryouts.

Game dates will be provided by the program director at the start of each season and can be found on the team calendar in your PlayMetrics account.  Finalized game times, played at any NC Fusion facility, will be updated in your team calendar at least 7 days prior to the game date.

Away game times will be provided as soon as received from the hosting club.  Please be aware that we do not have control over the timing of the release of final game schedules when we are visiting another club.

Schedules are always subject to change due to last minute weather issues, coaching conflicts and opposing club decisions.
